Inter-regional symposium on enforcement of IPRs in countries in transition, Belgrade, Serbia, September 6 to 7, 2011

  WIPO organized in cooperation with Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia (IPO) an Inter-Regional Symposium on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).
  The objective of the Symposium was to present and discuss the final draft version of the WIPO Tool on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in Countries in Transition, as well as the issues of promotion and follow-up activities; and to improve the enforcement of IPRs in the countries in transition in the region.
  The Symposium addressed the most important issues concerning the enforcement of rights such as development of methods of determination of piracy and counterfeiting, cooperation and interaction among different state authorities in charge of enforcement (customs, police, inspections, IP offices, judicial authorities) within the participating countries, and on the other hand, cooperation between the private sector and competent authorities in suppression of infringement of IPRs. The emphasis was also on the cooperation between the competent authorities of the participating countries. The monitoring and gathering of statistical data on piracy and counterfeiting of IPRs was also of paramount importance in that context.
