Standing Committee on Copyright and RelatedRights Holds 3rd Session

Representatives from some 80 member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) met from November 16 to 20, 1999 to discuss issues relating to copyright and related rights. At this third session of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), delegates looked at three issues in particular, namely, the protection of audiovisual performances, protection of databases and protection of the rights of broadcasting organizations. Nine intergovernmental and 44 non-governmental organizations also participated in the discussions.

Los representantes de unos 80 Estados miembros de la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI) se reunieron del 16 al 20 de noviembre de 1999 para abordar cuestiones relacionadas con el derecho de autor y los derechos conexos. En esta tercera sesión del Comité Permanente de Derecho de Autor y Derechos Conexos (SCCR), los delegados consideraron tres temas en particular, a saber, la protección de las interpretaciones o ejecuciones audiovisuales, la protección de las bases de datos y la protección de los derechos de los organismos de radiodifusión. También participaron en las deliberaciones nueve organizaciones intergubernamentales y 44 no gubernamentales.

Des représentants de quelque 80 États membres de l'Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI) se sont réunis du 16 au 20 novembre 1999 pour débattre de questions touchant au droit d'auteur et aux droits connexes. Lors de cette troisième session du Comité permanent du droit d'auteur et des droits connexes (SCCR), les délégués ont examiné en particulier trois questions, à savoir, la protection des interprétations et exécutions audiovisuelles, la protection des bases de données et la protection des droits des organismes de radiodiffusion. Neuf organisations intergouvernementales et 44 organisations non gouvernementales ont pris part aux discussions.

WIPO Welcomes New Ratifications of "Internet Treaties"

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Dr. Kamil Idris, welcomed the ratification on Friday by Argentina and Slovenia of two WIPO treaties which establish basic standards of protection for copyright and related rights on the Internet and other digital networks, the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT).

El Director General de la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI), Dr. Kamil Idris, recibió con satisfacción la ratificación el viernes, por la Argentina y Eslovenia, de los dos tratados de la OMPI que establecen normas básicas para la protección del derecho de autor y los derechos conexos en Internet y en otras redes digitales, a saber, el Tratado de la OMPI sobre Derecho de Autor (WCT) y el Tratado de la OMPI sobre Interpretación o Ejecución y Fonogramas (WPPT).

Kamil Idris, s'est félicité de la ratification ce vendredi par l'Argentine et la Slovénie de deux traités de l'OMPI qui établissent des normes de protection fondamentales pour le droit d'auteur et les droits connexes sur l'Internet et les autres réseaux numériques : le Traité de l'OMPI sur le droit d'auteur (WCT) et le Traité de l'OMPI sur les interprétations et exécutions et les phonogrammes (WPPT).
