The WIPO Japan Office promotes WIPO's global IP services for patents, trademarks and industrial designs, as well as its global databases, IP Advantage and multi-stakeholder initiatives, to Japanese users. We do this through the website, seminars, training, publications, and local customer service as well as other activities in conjunction with Japan Funds-In-Trust and the Japanese government.

Release of the Global Innovation Index 2020

Report ranking the innovation performance of 131 economies in the world including Japan. Japan ranks 16th. Tokyo-Yokohama ranks top in the world as a science and technology cluster.

WIPO’s Virtual Exhibition on AI and IP

Focusing on the use of AI in the arts, music, technology and entertainment, the exhibition is designed to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the relationship between IP and AI as well as the challenges that arise in that relationship. As a participation from Japan, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation displays its technology in the exhibition, thanks to the cooperation of the company.

Films on Asian innovators

In cooperation with the Japan Funds-in-Trust, we produce short documentaries featuring innovators from the Asia-Pacific region. These films bring to life various success stories, including those highlighted in the IP Advantage database.

WIPO manga

The Honmono (Genuine Goods) manga is the result of a 2010 national competition, in cooperation with the Japan Patent Office and Kadokawa Group Publishing, to explain the importance of trademarks and the dangers of counterfeit goods.

The WIPO Magazine is now available online in Japanese, providing our users with more content on IP in their local language. The Magazine provides up-to-date information on creativity and innovation in action, exploring the advantages of IP.
