Malaysia and El Salvador became the 131st and 132nd contracting states of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) when they deposited their instruments of accession at WIPO on May 16, 2006 and May 17, 2006, respectively. The Treaty will enter into force for Malaysia on August 16, 2006, and for El Salvador on August 17, 2006.
El 16 y 17 de mayo de 2006, y tras depositar en la OMPI su instrumento de adhesión, Malasia y El Salvador pasaron a ser respectivamente, el 131 y 132 Estados contratantes del Tratado de Cooperación en materia de Patentes (PCT), que entrará en vigor para Malasia el 16 de agosto de 2006 y para El Salvador el 17 de agosto de 2006.
En déposant leur instrument d'adhésion auprès de l'OMPI, respectivement, le 16 mai 2006 et le 17 mai 2006, la Malaisie et El Salvador sont devenus le 131e et le 132e États contractants du Traité de coopération en matière de brevets (PCT). La Malaisie sera liée par le traité à compter du 16 août 2006 et El Salvador sera lié par le traité à compter du 17 août 2006.
The need to heighten awareness of the negative impact of counterfeiting and piracy and to build support for global enforcement efforts was at the core of discussions at a meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE) in Geneva from May 15-17, 2006. Among the top officials addressing the Committee were Mr. Datuk Hj. Mohd Shafie bin Hj. Apdal, Minister, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Putrajaya, Malaysia, Senator Colin Derrick, Minister for Justice, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, Mr. Ion Codescu, Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice, Romania, and Mr. Fadi Makki, Director General/Advisor to the Prime Minister, Lebanon.
La necesidad de intensificar las actividades de sensibilización sobre la incidencia negativa de la piratería y la falsificación, y de apoyar las actividades de observancia en el plano internacional, fue el eje de los debates de una sesión del Comité Asesor sobre Observancia (ACE) de la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI), celebrada en Ginebra del 15 al 17 de mayo. The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Dr. Kamil Idris, pledged the Organization's continued support in enhancing the intellectual property (IP) system in Morocco during talks with Moroccan Minister of Justice, H.E.Mr. Mohammed Bouzoubaa, on Monday, May 8, 2006. In a meeting in Geneva, the Director General and the Minister of Justice discussed the strategic importance and relevance of intellectual property for development and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation between WIPO and Morocco.
El lunes 8 de mayo de 2006, el Director General de la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI), Dr. Kamil Idris, manifestó la voluntad de la Organización de seguir apoyando la consolidación del sistema de propiedad intelectual en Marruecos durante las conversaciones con el Ministro de Justicia de Marruecos, S.E. Sr. Mohammed Bouzoubaa. En una reunión celebrada en Ginebra, el Director General y el Ministro de Justicia debatieron la importancia estratégica y la pertinencia de la propiedad intelectual en relación con el desarrollo y buscaron formas de seguir estrechando los lazos de colaboración entre la OMPI y Marruecos.
Lors d'entretiens avec le ministre marocain de la justice, M. Mohammed Bouzoubaa, le lundi 8 mai 2006, le directeur général de l'Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI), M. Kamil Idris, a assuré que l'Organisation continuerait d'appuyer les efforts de développement du système de propriété intellectuelle au Maroc. Au cours de cette rencontre qui a eu lieu à Genève, le directeur général et le ministre de la justice ont examiné l'importance et l'intérêt stratégiques de la propriété intellectuelle pour le développement et étudié les moyens de renforcer encore la coopération entre l'OMPI et le Maroc.
Member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) agreed last week on a way forward in addressing questions relating to updating the rights of broadcasting organizations by following a parallel process in dealing with questions relating to traditional broadcasting and cablecasting organizations and the issues of webcasting and simulcasting. At the end of the week-long meeting in Geneva, from May 1 to 5, 2006, member states agreed to hold an additional meeting of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) ahead of the annual meeting of the WIPO General Assembly to further strengthen consensus on questions relating to the rights of traditional broadcasters and cablecasters. In that context the General Assembly in autumn 2006 would be able to recommend the convening of a diplomatic conference to conclude a treaty in 2007. Member states agreed that the questions of webcasting and simulcasting would continue to be examined by a meeting of the SCCR after the General Assembly.

Les États membres de l'Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI) sont convenus, la semaine dernière, d'une manière de faire progresser l'examen des questions relatives à l'actualisation des droits des organismes de radiodiffusion en suivant un processus parallèle d'examen des questions relatives aux organismes traditionnels de radiodiffusion et de câblodistribution et des questions relatives à la diffusion sur le Web et à la diffusion simultanée. À l'issue de cette réunion d'une semaine à Genève, du 1er au 5 mai 2006, les États membres sont convenus de tenir une session supplémentaire du Comité permanent du droit d'auteur et des droits connexes (SCCR) avant la réunion annuelle de l'Assemblée générale de l'OMPI afin de renforcer le consensus sur les questions relatives aux droits des radiodiffuseurs et câblodistributeurs traditionnels.
The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Dr. Kamil Idris, underlined the strategic importance of intellectual property (IP) to Lusophone countries and pledged the Organization's continued support of the Portuguese language as a vehicle for the dissemination of scientific and technical information within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) during a visit to Lisbon on April 28, 2006. During his visit, the Director General addressed the Ministerial Conference on Industrial Property for Portuguese-Speaking Countries organized by the Government of Portugal with the support of WIPO to mark the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the CPLP. The Ministerial Conference was organized with a view to developing and articulating strategies for the use of the IP system in Lusophone countries and to reinforce the use of Portuguese as a technological and economic support language within the knowledge and information society.

Durante su visita, el Director General intervino en la Conferencia Ministerial sobre Propiedad Intelectual para los Países de Lengua Portuguesa, organizada por el Gobierno de Portugal con el apoyo de la OMPI para conmemorar el décimo aniversario de la creación de la CPLP. La Conferencia Ministerial ha sido organizada con el fin de elaborar y coordinar estrategias para utilizar el sistema de P.I. en los países de lengua portuguesa y fortalecer el uso del portugués como idioma de apoyo tecnológico y económico en la sociedad de la información y de los conocimientos.

The Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Folklore met at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva from April 24 to 28, 2006 to continue work on the protection of TK, Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs) and Genetic Resources.
