Intellectual property rights includes:
1. Copyright and related rights;
2. Industrial property, which comprises: inventions, industrial designs, layout designs (topographies) of integrated circuits, undisclosed information and trade secrets; trademarks, service marks and commercial slogans; distinctive appearance of business and commercial establishments; trade names, geographical indications; and any other intellectual creation intended for agricultural, industrial or commercial use.
3. Plant varieties.
The law recognizes the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI) as the administrative body responsible for promoting and protecting, on behalf of the State, intellectual property rights. Notwithstanding the civil and criminal actions that, on this matter, should be known by the Judiciary.
