The notification by Ecuador to the WTO under article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'The Law establishes that the State recognizes, regulates and safeguards intellectual property acquired in accordance with the law, decisions of the Commission of the Andean Community and the international conventions in force in Ecuador.
Intellectual property encompasses the following:
1. Copyright and related rights;
2. Industrial property, including, inter alia:
(a) Inventions;
(b) Industrial designs;
(c) Layout-designs (topographies) of integrated circuits;
(d) Undisclosed information and trade and industrial secrets;
(e) Trademarks, service marks and commercial slogans;
(f) Distinctive appearances of businesses and commercial establishments;
(g) Trade names;
(h) Geographical indications;
and (i) any other intellectual creation intended for agricultural, industrial or commercial use;
3. Plant varieties.'
