REPUBLIC OF MAURITIUS

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE

No. (17674/43/21) 20 August, 1998

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius presents its compliments to the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization and has the honour to refer to the latters’s Note (C.INT.2) of 16 July 1998 regarding the request for comments on Terms of Reference, Procedures and Timetable relating to an international process to be convened by the Organization for the development of recommendations regarding certain intellectual property issues associated with Internet domain names.

The Ministry wishes to inform that the Mauritian Authorities are of the view that the initiative taken by the World Intellectual Property Organization is in the right direction because very often conflict will arise between domain name and other trade related intellectual properties and that it is necessary to have an international authority for dispute prevention and dispute resolution. The terms of Reference, Procedures are also quite exhaustive.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization the assurances of its highest consideration.
