Spotlight: Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, November 11-22, 2024

WIPO Member States are in final-stage negotiations on a proposed new treaty to support the work of designers around the world whose work makes our lives better and more beautiful.

The future treaty aims to streamline the global system for protecting designs, making it easier, faster and more affordable for designers to protect their work in home markets as well as overseas.

WIPO Member States Adopt Riyadh Design Law Treaty

WIPO member states today approved a new Treaty that will make it easier, faster and more affordable for designers the world over to protect their designs both at home and abroad, marking a major step forward in empowering designers and fostering international collaboration in design.

Saudi Designer Explains Inspiration for Diplomatic Conference Emblem

Aljohara Almansour, Branding Specialist at the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) shares her inspiration for creating the emblem for the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty. At the heart of the emblem is an aerial view of a palm tree, surrounded by radiating lines that represent the diffusion of innovation and creativity around the world. The geometric shapes are symbolic of Riyadh’s Salmani architecture.

Diplomatic Conference Delegates Attend Saudi Cultural Evening

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) hosted a cultural event for delegates at the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty showcasing the rich heritage and vibrant traditions of Saudi Arabia. The event, held just outside Riyadh in Alamariyah, featured cultural booths, live performances and a selection of traditional displays

Renowned Designer Hails Benefits of Future Treaty for Designers

Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue, whose furniture and other household designs integrate natural materials through innovative handmade production processes, speaks about the importance of design protection and hopes that a new design law treaty will help designers the world over to protect their designs. Mr. Cobonpue was in Riyadh to attend the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty that is meeting from November 11-22, 2024.

A new mobile app project for Arabic-speaking countries on designs and branding was launched on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty in Riyadh.
