Enriching Development Agenda Projects: Inter-Regional Training Fosters Peer Learning and Collaboration Across African, Arab, and Asia-Pacific Countries
February 24, 2025
Around 60 National Focal Points from 19 countries came together to strengthen their project management skills and forge inter-regional collaborations for Development Agenda (DA) projects. This inter-regional training was organized in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia and with support from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global ((FIT/Japan IP Global), in Bali, Indonesia, on January 14-15, 2025.
Participants included representatives from Ministries, Intellectual Property Offices, Copyright Offices, and Academia from African, Arab, as well as Asia and the Pacific countries. The training was tailored to the specific needs, roles and responsibilities of the National Focal Points and included sessions focused on the different stages of the project lifecycle, ranging from initiation through to implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Each session incorporated peer learning through experience sharing and interactive group discussions by participants. Such an approach allowed to equip participants with the necessary skillset to successfully prepare, implement and sustain the results of the DA projects in their respective countries.
Enhancing Expertise in DA Project Management
The “Introductory Panel on DA Projects” provided yet another platform for participants to share knowledge and learn from each other. The panel featured five experienced National Focal Points from the three regions, who presented their insights, lessons learned and challenges from managing diverse DA projects in their respective countries. After productive discussions, participants put theory into practice with exercises, which gave them hands-on experience in applying the tools, strategies and concepts covered during the training to their work as National Focal Points of the DA projects.
Facilitating Collaboration and Maximizing Impact
Organized as the first ever inter-regional training, it allowed participants to foster collaboration and identify synergies among various DA projects with the aim of amplifying the achieved results. Participants expressed their appreciation for the training and WIPO’s continued support in fostering collaboration, strengthening regional and inter-regional partnerships, and equipping them with the necessary tools to maximize the impact of DA projects in their respective countries.
