Copyright Ordinance (Cap 16)

Year of Version:1998
Date of Entry into Force:June 13, 1917
Type of Text:Main IP Laws: enacted by the Legislature
Subject Matter:Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights), Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, IP Regulatory Body
The Copyright Ordinance 1917 (Cap 16) was revised and consolidated in 1998.
Kiribati has limited copyright legislation, adopting the application of parts of the Copyright Act 1956 of England, except that Section 22 of this U.K. Act does not apply as part of the law of Kiribati. (See Section 5 of the Copyright Ordinance 1917 for further details).
Currently, Copyright Ordinance 1917 has little relevance but it is the only law in Kiribati which recognises copyright in this jurisdiction.

Note that in Kiribati the sanction for copyright infringements is a fine (See Section 2 'Penalties for dealing with infringing copies').
