Review of the Lisbon System

In September 2008, the Assembly of the Lisbon Union established a Working Group on the Development of the Lisbon System responsible for exploring possible improvements to the procedures under the Lisbon System to make it more attractive for users and prospective new members, while preserving the principles and objectives of the Lisbon Agreement.  Since 2009, the Working Group has engaged in a full review of the Lisbon International Registration System involving its possible extension to geographical indications in addition to appellations of origin.  A chronological overview of the work carried out so far is provided below.
