Registration open for trilateral webinar on technology transfer from the practitioners' perspective

June 6, 2023

The Secretariats of the WTO, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will hold a joint webinar on technology transfer from the perspectives of practitioners, on 27 June 2023.

The webinar aims at strengthening the capacity of policymakers and experts to achieve equitable access to COVID-19 health technologies and to be better prepared for future pandemics.  The event will be the fourth in the series of trilateral workshops which the Directors-General of the WHO, WIPO, and the WTO have agreed to organize within the existing collaboration framework.

This practical capacity-building webinar will draw from the experience and perspectives of technology transfer practitioners working on the ground, with the following objectives:

  • Strengthen the capacity of policymakers and experts to understand the process of technology transfer in the area of health technologies in order to ensure better response and preparedness for future pandemics;
  • Foster a better understanding of the role of intellectual property and trade in relation to technology transfer, and examine the role of licensing and financing as part of the ecosystem for innovation, local production, and access to health technologies; and
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of experiences and views that can help the Secretariats of the WTO, WHO and WIPO to better respond to the capacity-building needs of their members and WTO accession candidates.

The webinar will be held in English.

This virtual capacity-building activity is open to the public. Online registration is available until Monday 26 June 2023, noon (Geneva time).
