Algeria: Order No. 1082 of December 27, 2020, Setting the Rules Relating to the Prevention and Fight Against Plagiarism

Algeria: The Order No. 1082 of December 27, 2020, Setting the Rules Relating to the Prevention and Fight Against Plagiarism was issued and entered into force on December 27, 2020, and repealed Order No. 933 of July 28, 2016, Setting the Rules on the Prevention and Fight Against Plagiarism.

The Order covers, inter alia, the following elements:

(i) introducing the definition of plagiarism;

(ii) providing for measures to prevent plagiarism by students, teachers, and researchers, including during doctoral training and scientific research activities, and implements technical control measures; and

(iii) reviewing examination procedures for plagiarism prevention and imposes sanctions for violations.

Article 30 under Section III, Chapter IV of the Order provides that any person who has suffered damage from plagiarism has the right to sue the plagiarist for injuries caused thereby, in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 03-05 of 19 Joumada El Oula 1424 corresponding to July 19, 2003, on Copyright and Related Rights.
