Name: Brent Gregory Organization: Livingston North Communications Position: President We strongly oppose any increase in WIPO authority or mission to include geographic domain names or additional responsibilities. Decisions such as Crew.com and Barcelona.com are grossly unfair on their face and amount to sanctioned theft from the rightful owners of these domains. It's clear that when a giant corporation, powerful government interest or other influence peddler can’t find a legitimate claim to a domain, all they have to do is turn to WIPO to steal the name for them. This type system will never meet the test of fairness that is required for a workable international domain policy. It is amazing that we have sunk so low that such actions would even be considered, much less tolerated in broad daylight on the world stage. WIPO should NOT be in a position to deprive domain name holders of their rightful ownership of domain names or due process in dispute resolutions. The current system, recent decisions, and proposed future direction all point to unfair advantage for complainants and diminution of ownership rights for current domain holders who simply got there first. This system needs to be fixed, not expanded! |
