Seminar on "Selected Legal Issues in the Film Industry"

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center, with the support of the Busan International Film Festival

Saturday, October 8, 2011, 14:00-16:30, Busan International Film Festival

Overview

The film business is a creative and fast-moving sector. Film deals, such as co-production, screenwriting, financing or distribution agreements are more and more international, raising legal questions about contract negotiation, drafting agreements, and dispute resolution.

This Seminar program brings together industry representatives and dispute resolution experts, who will address these questions and discuss practical solutions with the audience. A discussion on potential legal pitfalls when negotiating film co-production and other agreements will take place, followed by an overview of types of dispute which may arise in the film industry. The new WIPO Mediation and Expedited Arbitration for Film and Media will be presented as a possible option for resolving film disputes outside the courts. The Seminar will conclude with an exchange of expert views on the legal impact of the Internet and digital technologies on film distribution and marketing and the management of online content.
