High Level Meetings on Accession to Madrid Protocol

On May 9 high-level WIPO staff participated in meetings on Brazil’s accession to the Madrid Protocol, in Brasilia.

The purpose of the meetings was to present an overview of the debate and background to the discussions held since the Brazilian government first expressed its intention to join the Madrid Protocol, as well as a presentation on the benefits of the Madrid System.

A roadmap containing measures to be adopted for accession to take place at the end of 2018 was also presented.

Participants

From the Brazilian side, the first meeting was attended by members of the Committee on Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Services of the Lower House of Parliament, Mr. Antônio Bulhões and Mr. Francisco Francischini. The second, by representatives of the Ministry of Industry Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC): The Minister Marcos Jorge de Lima, Ms. Yana Dumaresq, Executive Secretary of the MDIC and officials from International Advisory, Technical Assistance, Secretariat of Innovation, Undersecretary of Information and Strategic Management.

From WIPO’s side, Ms. Binying Wang, Deputy Director General, Brand and Designs Sector, Mr. Marcus Höpperger, Director of Madrid Registry and Mr. José Graça Aranha, Regional Director of WBO participated.
