Preserving the Art of the Ghardaïa Carpet: An Ancestral Craft at the Heart of Algeria’s Cultural Heritage
Through this video, discover the Ghardaïa carpet, a distinctive expression of Algeria’s rich artisanal heritage. Its traditional techniques have been passed down from generation to generation, preserving the knowledge and craftsmanship of local artisans.
Entirely handwoven, the Ghardaïa carpet is distinguished by the richness of its patterns, the harmony of its colours and the originality of its designs. Each creation reflects a deeply rooted cultural identity shaped by the history and traditions of the region.
Inspired by nature, traditional jewellery, geometric forms and Tifinagh script, the carpet’s motifs reflect Ghardaïa’s cultural heritage. Natural dyes from henna, pomegranate and local plants give each piece its distinctive character and beauty.
