The Director General was invited by H. E. Mr. Karim Massimov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan to visit Astana and to take part in the Fifth Astana Economic Forum.
The main purpose of the visit was to take part in the Forum, to chair and contribute to the Roundtable on the Role of Intellectual Property in Economic Growth, as well as to participate in the WIPO awards ceremony for the best inventors in Kazakhstan. In addition, the visit provided an excellent opportunity for the Director General to review the bilateral cooperation between WIPO and Kazakhstan, as well as to discuss its further perspectives.
The Astana Economic Forum has become one of the major international fora for discussion of key challenges faced by global economy. The meeting brought together over 7,000 delegates from more than 80 countries. One of the major outcomes of the Fifth Astana Economic Forum were the Recommendations on IP as result of the Roundtable onthe Role of Intellectual Property in Economic Growth.
