Name: r withers Organization: CMW Carpet Co. Position: EVP - Markting & Legal Affairs I believe this proposal as drafted is too broad and is too far-reaching. This will only help lengthen the digital divide. As a small business owner, who is trying to have a small web presence, I can not afford to trademark my company name, including all of its diritives, let alone enforce it. In addition, my competitors who may have deeper pockets could easily file a trademark of MY company's name and then have a valid standing for snatching my domain name away from me. My company's business and domain name stem from my initials, and there are other "CMW"'s out there, and I would not want "CMW Co." coming along after I've been around for years saying that "CMW Carpet Co." infringes on their tradename and be able to take away my established domain name. Next, you'll be able to take our screen and membership names and passwords, too. |
