The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments and has the honor to notify the deposit by the Government of Georgia, on July 14, 2025, of its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement), adopted at Geneva on May 20, 2015.
The instrument contained the following declaration:
- Georgia declares that the application of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement in relation to Georgia's regions of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia - occupied by the Russian Federation as a result of its illegal military aggression - shall commence once Georgia's de facto jurisdiction over these regions - the occupied territories is fully restored.
The Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement will enter into force, with respect to Georgia, on October 14, 2025.
