The notification by the United Kingdom to the WTO under article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'The Act makes new provisions for registered trade marks and the European Community trade mark and gives effect to the Madrid Protocol relating to the International Registration of Marks of 27 June 1989 and to certain provisions of the Paris Convention.
The Act proscribes the registering of a trade mark if it is of such a nature as to deceive the public about the geographical origin of the goods or services. The Act prohibits in certain circumstances the disclosure of information without the consent of the applicant for the trade mark.'
