Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure

Communication by the Government of Japan Relating to Changes in the Schedule of Fees Charged by the International Patent Organism Depositary (IPOD), National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), and by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation, Patent Microorganisms Depositary (NPMD)

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify the receipt, on February 10, 2025, of a communication dated February 10, 2025, from the Government of Japan relating to changes in the schedule of fees charged by the International Patent Organism Depositary (IPOD), National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), and by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation, Patent Microorganisms Depositary (NPMD), International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure (Budapest Treaty), done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, and amended on September 26, 1980 (see Budapest Notification No. 15 of March 31, 1981 and Budapest Notification No. 215 of April 1, 2004).

In accordance with Rule 12.2(c) of the Regulations under the Budapest Treaty, the new fees set forth in the communication, except the transaction fee, shall take effect on April 1, 2025.

The new schedule of fees is indicated in the Attachment.

  (a) Storage JPY
    (i) refrigerated or frozen  
- original deposit (for 30 years) 113,700

- extension of storage duration (per year) 13,700
    (ii) subculturing of active culture

- new deposit 50,500

  (b) Issuance of an attestation under Rule 8.2 2,900
  (c) Issuance of a viability statement  
    (i) when a viability test is carried out 35,100
    (ii) based on the last viability test 2,900
  (d) Furnishing of a sample (shipping fee excluded) 52,100
  (e) Issuance of a communication under Rule 7.6 2,900
  (f) Issuance of some kinds of certification 2,900

Fees do not include tax.

For each of the above items, a transaction fee of 4,300 JPY will be applied to all orders placed outside Japan.
