Law No. 16 of 2004 on the Protection of Geographical Indications shall come into force on the day following its publication in the Official Gazette (August 18, 2004), in accordance with Article 16.
The notification by Bahrain to the WTO under Article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'The Law defined geographical indications such as names or marks that indicate the origin of the commodity in the province, a region or a particular site if the quality, reputation or other characteristics is essentially attributable to its geographical origin. The law specifies the registration of geographical indications and periods of protection and litigation procedures in the event of a dispute, or contrary to the provisions of this act.'
