WIPO GREEN database technology highlight - Honda Motor Co. Ltd’s CIGS Thin Film Solar Cell Module

According to Honda, this CIGS thin film solar cell module provides greater efficiency than other alternatives on the market. It has a light absorbing layer made of Cu(In1-xGax)Se2 (CIGS)compound. The module conversion efficiency is over 13% with the commercial products and has reached 15% with prototype. The cell including the CIGS layer is formed on a large glass substrate by sputtering technology. For this reason, it is relatively easy to produce a large-area module, and the effect of partial shade on the module to decrease the power generation is lower than crystalline silicon.

UNEP DTU Partnership introduces the ADMIRE Project

The UNEP DTU Partnership – formerly known as the UNEP Risoe Centre – introduces the ADMIRE Project in support of both adaptation and mitigation actions through private sector engagement.

The private sector plays an indispensable role in actions that mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts. The ADMIRE Project welcomes ideas that can create further market potentials for the private sector in mitigation and adaptation. Ideas are expected to involve the active collaboration between relevant public sector entities and private business.

The ADMIRE Project supports the development of such ideas, in collaboration with applicants, local experts and national government representatives, into sustainable financeable frameworks that will support the integration of private sector engagement and investment into nationally appropriate mitigation and adaptation plans and policies.

Applications may be submitted by any legal entity – a company, a public institution, an NGO or an individual – in the 14 eligible countries.

Application deadline: September 20, 2014
