The 2025 edition of An International Guide to Patent Case Management for Judges is released today, further expanding WIPO’s commitment to supporting judiciaries worldwide in the effective judicial management of patent litigation.

New chapter on Spain authored by senior judges
This latest edition features a significant addition: a comprehensive new chapter on Spain, authored by four senior judges from the Spanish judiciary. The chapter provides an in-depth overview of Spain’s patent system, judicial structure, and judicial practices in patent case management, reflecting the increasing importance of Spanish jurisprudence in the global patent landscape.
Now available in Spanish and English
For the first time, the Guide is published in both Spanish and English. This expanded language offering will benefit judges, legal practitioners, and readers across Spanish-speaking jurisdictions, making the Guide’s practical insights and comparative approaches more accessible to a broader international audience.
Supporting global judicial excellence
The Guide, developed with contributions from around 70 prominent judges, practitioners, and academics, continues to serve as a comprehensive, accessible, and practical resource on the different stages of patent litigation. Each chapter offers an overview of the patent system in the respective jurisdiction, details procedures and practices of case management, and integrates pertinent patent law doctrines. The Guide’s customization function allows readers to tailor content to specific questions or jurisdictions with ease.
This new edition underscores WIPO’s vision for a balanced and effective approach to intellectual property that works for everyone, everywhere, and supports the cross-pollination of judicial approaches and good practices across borders.
