Year of Version 1968 Dates Entry into force: January 31, 1968 Enacted: January 29, 1968 Type of Text Constitution/Basic Law Subject Matter Other Notes The Constitution of the Republic of Nauru was adopted on independence day, January 31, 1968.
It does not contain provisions on the protection of intellectual property rights. However, Article 8 'Protection from deprivation of property' in Part II 'Protection of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms' prohibits the deprivation of private property, which reads: 'No person shall be deprived compulsorily of his property except in accordance with law for a public purpose and on just terms...'
The right to property is furthermore guaranteed by Article 9 'Protection of person and property' in Part II and by Article 91 'Vesting of property, etc.' in Part XI 'Transitional Provisions' of the Constitution.
