Year of Version 2019 Dates Entry into force: January 14, 2019 Issued: December 18, 2018 Type of Text Implementing Rules/Regulations   Subject Matter Trademarks Subject Matter (secondary) Enforcement of IP and Related Laws Notes These Regulations, made pursuant to the European Communities Act, 1972, amend and extend certain provisions of the Trade Marks Act 1996 to give statutory effect in the State to Directive (EU) 2015/2436 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2015 amending Directive 2008/95/EC relating to trade marks and to certain provisions of Council Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 of 14 June 2017, on the European Union Trade Mark. As there is currently a prescribed legislative framework in place for trade marks, namely, the Trade Marks Act 1996 , the transposition of the Directive into Irish law will necessitate the introduction of new, modernizing provisions and the revision of certain existing Irish provisions.
