The Act provides for the functions of National Health Laboratory Service, which states, inter alia, that the Service may apply for, purchase , protect, extend, renew, deal with or alienate any patents, patent rights, licenses, trade marks, concessions or other rights (Section 5(2)(h); and set out rules governing discoveries, inventions and improvements made by employees of the Service and other persons who participate in any research activities with the Service (Section 17).
