How to manage your international registration: Limitation

To restrict the list of goods and services for some or all of the designated Contracting Parties (countries/regions) in your international registration, use Form MM6.

You may submit Form MM6 directly to WIPO or through your "home" Office (i.e., the Office of the Contracting Party of the holder).

The restricted goods and services will remain in the main list of the international registration, but those impacted by the limitation will no longer apply in the countries/regions concerned. To permanently remove the goods and services from the International Register, use Form MM8 (partial cancellation).

Can I include the restricted goods and services in a subsequent designation?

Yes, you can later request a subsequent designation (e-Subsequent Designation or Form MM4) for the goods and services that are the subject of the limitation.

How much does it cost?

The fee for limitation is 177 Swiss francs per limitation.

Note that if the same limitation affects more than one designated Contracting Party, the fee will also be 177 Swiss francs.

For further information on limitations, please refer to paragraphs B.II.52.01 to 59.03 of the Guide to the International Registration of Marks under the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol and pages 43 to 49 of “Making the Most of the Madrid System”.
