Year of Version 2018 Dates Enacted: April 27, 2017 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Patents (Inventions), Other Notes Part 3 of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 creates a single research and innovation funding body, United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI), provides for research and innovation functions and role of the Councils of UKRI, establishes strategies and strategic delivery plans, and enshrines the Haldane principle and protections for the dual support system of research funding.

Section 123(6) of Part 4 of the Act provides that subection(4) does not apply to the amendments and repeals made by paragraph 13 of Schedule 12 to section 41(3) of the Patents Act 1977 which have the same extent as that section. (Subsection (4) states: 'Any amendment or repeal made by this Act has the same extent within the United Kingdom as the enactment amended or repealed.').

Schedule 12, paragraph 13 introduces amendments to section 41(3) of the Patents Act 1977, regarding the insertion of the new wordings 'United Kingdom Research and Innovation”.

Section 124 of Part 4 provides for different dates of entry into force of the Act.
