Notes This Ordinance implements the provisions of the following Federal Acts:
- Articles 20, paragraph 2; 23, paragraph 2; 24, paragraph 2 & 4; and 27, paragraphs 2 & 3 of of the Federal Act of October 5, 2001, on the Protection of Designs;
- Article 13 of the Federal Act of March 24, 1995, on the Statute and Tasks of the Federal Institute for Intellectual Property.

The notification by Switzerland to the WTO under Article 63.2 of TRIPS states that:
'This Ordinance replaces the Ordinance on Industrial Designs of 27 July 1900. Amendments resulting from the new Law on Designs include the following: the deposit and registration of designs, design application file and register, etc.'
