Year of Version 1998 Dates Entry into force: July 3, 1998 Adopted: July 1, 1998 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge (TK), IP Regulatory Body Notes The General Law of the Environment provides the principles and basic regulations for the protection, preservation and the recovery of the environment, and promotes the sustainable use of natural resources.

According to the law, the National Environmental Authority (ANAM) is the autonomous public entity of the State, who exercises power, authority and specialized tasks related to the environment and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Article 71 states that the National Environment Authority (ANAM) regulates and controls access to genetic and biological resources in general, with the exception of the human species relating to intellectual property rights.
