Close to 5 Million new Non-Patent Literature Documents Now Available in PATENTSCOPE
October 18, 2023
Thanks to an exclusive collaboration between WIPO and the publisher IEEE, a vast collection of almost 5 million non-patent literature (NPL) documents from IEEE is now searchable in PATENTSCOPE.
IEEE publishes nearly a third of the world's technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics. This includes more than 200 transactions, journals, and magazines published annually. In cooperation with John Wiley and Sons, Inc., IEEE also produces technical books, monographs, guides, and textbooks. IEEE journals are consistently among the most highly cited in electrical and electronics engineering, telecommunications, and other technical fields1.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Comprehensive Search Capability: the bibliographic data and full-text content of NPL are fully searchable using PATENTSCOPE's search features, including dedicated NPL search fields.
- IPC Integration: the in-house developed WIPO algorithm allocates IPC information to NPL articles, enhancing their categorization and accessibility.
- Integrated Results: NPL content is seamlessly integrated into your search results alongside patent documents, ranked by relevance to your query.
- Translation tool: To facilitate understanding of articles in different languages, WIPO Translate is at your disposal for translating NPL articles.
Incorporating non-patent literature (NPL) into your patent search serves to bridge informational gaps, offering insights into innovations that may not have undergone patenting or are currently outside the scope of patent coverage, yet remain relevant to the technology at hand. The inclusion of NPL within your patent search strategy contributes to a broader grasp of the technological landscape and enhances the probability of identifying pertinent prior art comprehensively.
