The 2nd Show and Tell Presentation Competition

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Japan Office, specialized agencies of the United Nations, will hold a "Show and Tell Presentation Competition.
The theme of the competition is "Innovation and Creation in Your Own Words". The awarded presentations will be translated into several languages, and posted on the WIPO web page to promote intellectual property systems in developing countries.
We welcome applicants who:
- want to take on new challenges outside of school
- want to introduce their ideas and activities they are usually involved in
- want to develop their careers on an international stage
- want to improve their presentation skills
- want to have networking opportunities with specialists in Japan and abroad
- are interested in UN agencies, intellectual property, and the SDGs.
Theme of the event
"Innovation and Creation in Your Own Words"
Any presentation format including slides, display of products, or verbal concepts is welcome. Present your ideas to the world in Japanese or English.
Examples of last year's award-winning presentations
- "Wonderful Belt" - Dog sore saver, a caring item to alleviate bedsores for dogs invented by a 5th grade student.
- AI x Innovation: Solving Japan's Recycling Dilemma for Foreigners
- Making the optical illusion yours! -creating original clothing
- For saving the future of the earth with invention
Who can enter?
The competition is open to all interested individuals who have the student status in Japanese education system (i.e. primary, junior high and high school and university), regardless of their nationalities and age. If you are below the legal age in Japan, the consent from a parent or legal guardian permitting you to enter the competition with your entry is required. Only individual entry is allowed. No group entry.

- In person competition: January 17, 2025 @ United Nations University (Shibuya, Tokyo)
Awards
Gold award and Silver award will be awarded in each of the four categories (8 awards in total) : elementary school, junior high school, high school, and university
In addition to a certificate, each winner will receive an Amazon gift card worth up to 100,000 yen.
Judges
The presentations will be judged by a panel of judges who are experts in the fields of intellectual property, education, and communication, both domestic and international.
Feedback from Last Year’s Winners
Some have made connections with major U.S. IT companies as a result of this contest, and others have won grand prizes at historic invention exhibitions!

What is "Show and tell"?
It is an international educational method to improve communication skills in primary and secondary education, also called "show and share" or "sharing time". In this competition, we invite you to tell your story, in your own words, about your invention, creation, or idea.

Who can enter?
The competition is open to all interested individuals who have the student status in Japanese education system (i.e. primary, junior high and high school and university), regardless of their nationalities and age. (Those who are enrolled in national institute of technology, the application will be categorized under high school entry for grades 3 and below, and university entry for grades 4 and 5)
If you are below the legal age in Japan, the consent from a parent or legal guardian permitting you to enter the competition with your entry is required.
Only individual entry is allowed. No group entry.
How to enter?
- Please register an account on the application page and submit a video recording of a presentation in Japanese or English with a maximum duration of 2 minutes.
- Submit your video in MP4 format – maximum length 2 minutes.
- Shortlists will be invited to give a presentation up to 5 minutes at an in-person presentation contest, to be held at United Nations University (Shibuya, Tokyo) on 17th January 2025.
- Please note that the WIPO Japan Office will cover the cost of transportation from the place of residence to the station nearest the venue.
