More on the event

The meeting was attended by government officials, MSMEs, the Scientific Research Organization of Samoa (SROS), the National University of Samoa, as well as representatives of creative industry and businesses from Savaii, the Cook Islands, Fiji and Tuvalu.

This mix of research and business institutions operating at both national and regional levels drove useful discussion on how to bridge the gap between academia and industry, and in this context the role of intellectual property (IP). Participants showed great interest in how to establish an enabling innovation eco system and in particular in how to draft institutional IP policies with the help of resources on the topic provided by WIPO.
