Online Requests to Replace Fax Communications

March 16, 2018

Are you still using fax services to send documents to WIPO? If so, now’s the time to make the switch to Contact Madrid: starting April 1, 2018, the Madrid Registry will no longer process documents and requests received by fax.

With the Contact Madrid service, you’ll have access to a printable confirmation and summary of your request each time you submit a request. What’s more, you’ll also receive an email receipt once your documents have been received and processed by WIPO.

As always, Madrid System customer service experts are on hand to answer your questions and guide you through this transition.

If you use Madrid Portfolio Manager to manage your international registration(s), you can continue to submit your forms to WIPO through your secure account.

Interested in using Madrid Portfolio Manager?  Signing up is easy and free of charge – simply register for a free WIPO User Account, then contact us to request secure access to your full portfolio of international registrations.

Do you work in a national IP Office?

Madrid Office Portal and the Madrid Electronic CommunicAtion (MECA) service are the most effective and efficient ways for IP offices to transmit forms, corrections, decisions, responses or other documents to WIPO.  Contact us for help setting up your free access to these services.

What’s behind the WIPO fax phase-out?

Because of technological changes introduced by global telecommunications service providers, the reliability and quality of traditional fax communication has declined significantly, leading to delays in processing your requests. Electronic communication methods, like Contact Madrid, Madrid Portfolio Manager, Madrid Office Portal and MECA are now the most efficient and effective means of communicating with WIPO. Not only do they significantly reduce the risk of data loss, but they also provide reliable and instant confirmation of receipt that you can retain for your records.
