Geneva, July 10, 2026 — WIPO has launched the Innovation Capabilities Navigator, a new interactive dashboard delivering economy-specific innovation profiles for 193 economies. The new platform helps policymakers, researchers and innovation leaders better understand their economies’ innovation strengths and identify opportunities for future growth.
The navigator transforms the findings of WIPO’s Innovation Capabilities Outlook (ICO) 2026 into practical, economy-specific insights.
"Innovation policy is most effective when it is grounded in evidence,” said Marco Aleman, WIPO Assistant Director General for the IP and Innovation Ecosystem Sector. “The Innovation Capabilities Navigator helps countries move from data to action by providing clear insights into their innovation strengths and identifying new opportunities for growth, competitiveness and economic diversification.”
Launched earlier this year, the ICO 2026 was developed in collaboration with Harvard's Growth Lab. It maps over 2,500 innovation capabilities by analyzing hundreds of millions of data points from scientific publications, patents, trademarks and exports. These indicators provide a comprehensive picture of an economy’s strengths and opportunities across four key dimensions: science, technology, entrepreneurship, and production.
The Innovation Capabilities Navigator makes these insights more accessible and actionable by providing dedicated profiles for each economy covered by the ICO. Users can compare capabilities across countries, identify areas of strength, complexity and opportunities for innovation-driven growth based on data and evidence.
The navigator was launched at the side event “Innovation Capabilities Outlook 2026: From Global Data to National Action” held during the 2026 WIPO Assemblies. The event brought together policymakers, economists, researchers and private-sector representatives to discuss how innovation data can support strategic decision-making and national development priorities.
By making complex innovation data more accessible and actionable, the Innovation Capabilities Navigator aims to support evidence-based policymaking and help economies identify new avenues to sustainable growth and competitiveness.
