Collective Marks as a Tool for Development: Philippines

The Development Agenda Project on Collective Marks in the Philippines is working in the Bicol Region with Orgullo Kan Bicol Association (OKB), which brings together producers of nuts, pastries, handicrafts, cosmetic and other products coming from Pili, a tropical tree that grows in the volcanic soil of the Philippines.

WIPO has teamed up with the National IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other local institutions to assist OKB in the development of a collective mark for their products.

Activities

Information Events on Collective Marks

From April 2021 to March 2022, the project team worked with OKB members to reach an agreement on the logo and the regulations of use of the collective mark.  Information events and workshops were held to assist OKB in this process.

Collective mark registration

On April 25, 2022, the Bikol Pili collective mark was officially registered with the national IP Office.

On June 14 2022, the collective mark was officially launched in Legazpi City.  The project team, members of OKB and other stakeholders celebrated the registration of the mark and discussed its importance for the future of the Pili industry.
