New E-Filing Service Launched by China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA)

On the back of strong growth in trademark filings in recent years, the Trademark Office of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has developed the country’s first online filing service for international applications (Madrid).
In the first month of its operation, the E-filing service already received 358 electronic applications – about 52% of all international applications filed in the country during that period.
Key benefits for users
Online filing: Just log on to the E-filing service by CNIPA, and submit your application through the e-filing service.
Electronic notifications: Receive and view notifications from CNIPA on fees, remedy, acceptance, etc. on the e-filing platform and via email.
Online application amendments: You can amend the application errors identified by CNIPA on the electronic platform.
Online payment: Pay in Chinese Yuan in one single transaction. CNIPA will collect the fee and forward it on to WIPO.
Instead of separate national and international forms, applicants only need to fill out one integrated form. The date of the Chinese registration of the basic mark is also automatically extracted to the international application form.
The system includes a verification function that checks the consistency of information entered in the name/address filed according to the basic mark record.
Applicants can directly upload the entire list of goods and services. Once validated, applications are sent electronically to WIPO with no time lost and all data are secured.
