IN exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1972, the Minister makes the following order:

Citation and Commencement

1.—(1) This order may be cited as the Trade Descriptions (Assignation of the Meaning of the Expression “Y2K”) Order 1999.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on 15 August 1999.

Acronym “Y2K”

2. In this Order, “Y2K” is the acronym for the expression “Year Two Thousand”.

Meaning of the Expression “Y2K”

3. The expression “Y2K” when used in relation to any goods in the course of trade or business as a trade description or as part of a trade description shall be deemed to be an indication that—

(a) the goods in relation to which such expression is used are capable of accurately processing, providing or receiving date data from, into and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, including the years 1999 and 2000, and leap year calculations; and

(b) the goods in relation to which such expression is used are able to perform all the electronic or related functions for which they are intended to perform and the changing of the year 1999 to 2000 will not in any manner cause any interruption, inconsistency or failure in their operation.
