Argentina adopted through Law No. 24.376 the 1978 Act of the UPOV Convention. In application of article 2 breeder's right can be recognized by either a specific right of protection or by a patent. Argentina chose to grant a specific right through the Seed Law No. 20.247 and its amendments, and not by industrial property (patents).

Date of Entry into Force: Chapters I and II according to Article 51 take effect from the date of enactment of the Act, while the other chapters and Articles 49 and 50 take effect six months following enactment. The application of Article 9 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is postponed for eighteen months following enactment.
