The Constitution of Singapore was adopted on September 16, 1963 and amended several times until the latest amendments of 1991, to provide for a popularly elected President. It is the supreme law of the country. The Constitution contains express provisions concerning the powers and functions of the diverse organs of state, such as the Legislature (Section 5), the Executive (Section 6) and the Judiciary (Section 7).

The Constitution of Singapore does not contain provisions concerning the protection of intellectual property rights. However, the right of citizens to enjoy property is mentioned under article 15 (3) “Freedom of Religion”, where “Every religious group has the right to acquire and own property, and hold and administer it in accordance with law”.
