The Telecommunications Act 1997 Act (Act No. 47 of 1997) was amended and contained in the compilation which takes into account amendments up to Act No. 51 of 2010. This Act sets up a system for regulating telecommunications and related issues.

Electronic addressing in Australia (internet domain name registration using suffixes like 'com' and 'au') is mostly industry regulated (see http://icann.org
and http://www.auda.org.au/), with relevant provisions in Part 22 the Telecommunications Act 1997 administered by the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. (see Part 22 "Numbering of carriage services and regulation of electronic addressing", p. 287).
