Year of Version 1999 Dates Entry into force: April 16, 1999 Adopted: March 25, 1999 Type of Text Implementing Rules/Regulations Subject Matter Patents (Inventions), Trademarks, IP Regulatory Body Notes The Register of Patent Agents and the Register of Trade Mark Agents (Amendment) Rules 1999 ('the Rules 1999'); issued pursuant to section 275 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, section 123 of the Patents Act 1977, and sections 78 and 83 of the Trade Marks Act 1994; make amendments to rule 8 (qualifying examinations) of the Register of Patent Agents Rules 1990, and rule 2 (interpretation) of the Register of Trade Mark Agents Rules 1990.
Rule 2 of the Rules 1999 states that the 'Chartered Institute of Patent Agents' as keeper of the register referred to in rule 8 of the Register of Patent Agents Rules 1990 has changed its name to the “Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys”.
Rule 3 of the Rules 1999 stipulates that the 'Institute of Trade Mark Agents' as keeper of the register referred to in rule 2 of the the Register of Trade Mark Agents Rules 1990 has changed its name to the “Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys”.
