This National Ordinance of December 16, 1996 (Official Gazette 1996, No. 188), also called the 'Trade Marks Ordinance 1995' was issued to repeal the Trade Marks Ordinance 1961.
It was signed by the Minister of Justice and was published in the Official Gazette on December 16, 1996; it was then issued by the Minister of General Affairs and entered into force on December 27, 1996.

The Netherlands Antilles were dissolved on October 10, 2010.- Consequently, St Maarten along with the island of Curaçao became autonomous states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, while the three smaller islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba (the “BES Islands” became a direct part of the Netherlands in the form of special municipalities.
