The Federal Law on the Prevention of Information Technology Crimes No.2 of 2006 provides, among others, for the imprisonment and a fine or either, for any intentional act committed by a person in order to gain access to a website or Information System, by breaking through the security measure (Art. 1). The punishment shall be imprisonment for at least 1 year and a fine of not less than AED 10,000 or either if it concerns personal data. If the contravention results in the deletion, destruction or damaging of data or information, the duration of imprisonment shall be at least 6 months and a fine or either (Art. 2 & Art. 3).
