Notes:	In accordance with Article 1, this law aims to ensure food security to inhabitants of Ecuador. For provisions relating to the protection of traditional knowledge, see Part II, Chapter II 'Protection of Agricultural Biodiversity.' Article 8, paragraph 2 specially states that in accordance with Article 402 of the Constitution of Ecuador, the germplasm, seeds, native plants and knowledge associated with them are conceived as ancestral heritage of the Ecuadorian people, therefore they are not patentable or not subject to the protection of intellectual property.
