Artificial Intelligence – Competitor or Tool?
Transcript
Artificial intelligence (AI) has progressed in leaps and bounds.
There is even talk that some patent applications are being drafted using AI.
Some people worry that AI could take work away from experts.
But I do not believe that AI can replace humans in their jobs.
For me, AI is primarily a tool that helps me to do my job better.
For example, let’s say I need to find and process a compound.
I won’t even try to say the compound’s name, because it’s unintelligible, and even in writing it looks impenetrable.
The easiest way is to build the structure.
In any case, when I carry out a search, I still have to work with both the name and the structure.
Now, imagine that there is not just one compound, but more than one hundred.
Obviously, that is a very labor-intensive process; so in that sense, AI can help me to process large amounts of information.
And I see the results of my work.
For instance, in a store I might be reading the ingredients of some product, and I realize that I saw those ingredients in applications five years ago.
I reviewed those applications, I approved that patent, and it is being used.
So now, for example, I can look at applications and have an idea of what the future holds: the medicines I will be treated with, what we will see on the shelves, what fuel I will fill up my car with.
