Materials for the European Qualifying Examination

In order to assist candidates in the preparation of materials for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) for prospective European patent attorneys or for the European Patent Administration Certification (EPAC) for patent administrators, the International Bureau, with the agreement of the Examination Board for the EQE and the EPAC Board, has made a special edition of the PCT Applicant’s Guide containing individual annexes and the introductions to the “International Phase” and the “National Phase” in both English and French, as of 31 October 2025. The PDF files have been replaced by a searchable and comprehensive version that is available for the EQE. Find the interactive version.

PCT International Authorities Quality Reports 2024

In accordance with PCT International Search and Preliminary Examination Guidelines, paragraphs 21.31 and 21.32, International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authorities submit annual reports on the quality management systems (QMS) that have been implemented for their work. The QMS reports for 2024 are available here.

New publication on Technologies for Mine Action

The WIPO Technology SPARK Report on Technologies for Mine Action was released recently. Drawing from the patent data from 2002-2024, this report provides an overview of global patenting trends in mine action technologies, focusing on detection, clearance, and personal protective equipment. The analysis reveals a shifting trend toward remote sensing technologies with growing interest in autonomous systems and artificial intelligence-based decision-making. These developments support the industry-wide goal of enhancing mine action safety and efficiency by minimizing human exposure to dangerous conditions.
