Pierre Buffet

Executive Vice President, Questel

Pierre Buffet received a degree in Informatics at Ecole Centrale de Lille. He worked in Operational Research for the Navy before establishing the Pascal Database at CNRS. Cofounder of Questel in 1978, he initiated works with INPI, EPO, WIPO and Derwent. He has been a major contributor to the Derwent-INPI-Questel cooperation, and to the development of EPOQUE.

Trustee of the CSA Trust, he works with trade associations: PDG, WON, PIUG, PATCOM or GFII. He is a programme committee member of the ICIC Conference (Infonortics), served for 10 years as Associate Editor of the ACS Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences and has been President of EUSIDIC for 3 years.

He received 3 awards:

  • 1987: EUSIDIC Personality of the Year,
  • 2001: Online Silver Jubilee Lifetime Achievement,
  • 2006: International Patent Information Award.
